WWE X CALL OF DUTY
Concept Mockup
WWE’s Attitude Era invades Call of Duty + Warzone store
From Arrakis to the Squared Circle
Call of Duty (COD) frequently has themed events and “bundles” that can be purchased from their store to use in game. The above screenshot is from their Dune event, where players could buy character “skins” and gun “blueprints” from the Dune movies.
In the past, the game has partnered with the likes of the TV show “The Boys,” Spawn, the NBA, and Monster Energy — so creating a proposed partnership with WWE seemed to align perfectly with the Call of Duty audience.
I choose to create a themed bundle around WWE’s most popular and well-known period, the “Attitude Era,” a time in wrestling between1998 -2001 where wrestling embraced a R-rated aesthetic with outlandish, crude, and “adult” storytelling.
Starting from the Dune themed store, I began to give it some (WWE) Attitude.
UI Journey
The above “Dawn of the Attitude” blu ray cover art felt like the perfect backdrop for the COD store design, but that required removing half the wrestlers and recreating the flaming sun background.
Once I was able to nail the flaming background I moved onto the Copy (using a very attitude era style font in MS Scratch) and Flavor Text description written with the attitude era catch phrases Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker:
Finisher
After adding a few finishing touches like bundle squares and pricing, the transformation from Dune to WWE was complete!
